Skills I used: brainstorming, imagining scenarios, script-writing, storyboarding, film direction, filming, video and audio editing
Summary: “The Grief of Natives” is a short design fiction film I made that was inspired by the concept of “digital natives,” or people who were born into a pervasively digital world. A review of recent articles showed an increasing concern about the uncertainty of the effects of technology on babies and children. Some concerns included early age of exposure, lack of “real-life” social skills, and physical and emotional attachment to digital devices. The film shows an intimate interview with an imagined photographer who documents the loss and grief of these devices, giving a glimpse into an extreme future scenario that has the potential to resonate with people as they navigate their technological lives today.
